Explore your LinkedIn network visually with InMaps

world-shaker:

LinkedIn map

LinkedIn has been having some fun with their data lately. They opened up the career tree a couple of months ago, and today they announced InMap to visualize your links as a network diagram. They call it InMap:

InMaps is an interactive visual representation of your professional universe that answers all of the above questions. It’s a great way to understand the relationships between you and your entire set of LinkedIn connections. With it you can better leverage your professional network to help pass along job opportunities, seek professional advice, gather insights, and more.

My New & Improved LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn and I have a love-hate relationship. One moment, we’re feuding about stupid closed connections, introductions, constantly verifying my login credentials and other nuisances (I believe in open networks where you have the chance to communicate with just about anyone). At other moments, I’m extremely grateful LinkedIn has made it easy for me to have a live résumé on such a connected network. I’m able to update my résumé, ask for recommendations, see possible connections I may have with a company of interest (whether I’m looking for a job or pitching).

As in all relationships, I take the good with the bad. Last week I decided to fully commit to my LinkedIn profile. Not because I believe in capitalizing on networking (*sarcasm*), but because I know LinkedIn is here to stay for the long haul. HR departments, recruiters and clients are turning to this attractive giant as a way to learn more about their perspective employee/consultant.

I mean, heck - I preach to other students about why they should join LinkedIn! After a few minutes of thinking, I took the plunge. I am now a full-fledged LinkedIn convert. And I promised myself that I’d provide better descriptions for the jobs I’ve done, answer questions, seek out new contacts, work on a fully translated Spanish version, and most importantly answer ALL my messages.

So here’s my new LinkedIn profile, ready to make my first impressions for me. I’m not done and I’ve only updated my Summary section. Let me know what you think in the comment box below. I appreciate all feedback (good, bad and weird):
