"You have one identity… The days of you having a different image for your work friends or co-workers and for the other people you know are probably coming to an end pretty quickly… Having two identities for yourself is an example of a lack of integrity"

I absolutely love this commercial by American Express - “Don’t Take Chances. Take Charge.”

I’ve recently been stumbling through American Express’ social media scatterings after seeing an interesting Facebook ad announcing the launch of their new campaign ZYNC. It’s a charge card with a customizable rewards and points program. You can earn points by doing the things you love. Whether that’s traveling (Yay!), going to concerts, eating out, shopping sprees or doing community service, you’re racking up points and getting some pretty cool benefits. NICE! It’s being targeted towards a younger, charge-card happy yet responsibly, I-want-it-my- way consumer.

However, as with all American Express cards, there’s a $25 annual fee. This is considerably lower than their usual $99 annual cost but for each customized rewards system (or “pack” as AMEX calls it), you’re adding about another $20 to that annual fee. At least they’re upfront about it. Sounds cool, right? Before you sign up, make sure to read Money Under 30’s review.

Another interesting observation is ZYNC and MTV’s partnership to find the next MTV TJ (Twitter Jockey). MTV is driving traffic to ZYNC’s Facebook Fan Page where users can nominate the next social media celebutante. I’ve put together a few qualifications considering that some of my friends have nominated themselves for the position:

  • Influencer
  • Hipster
  • Pop Culture Guru
  • Unique Style
  • Spell Checker (Nowadays, no one can spell but everyone can spell-check)
