“Will what you’re about to share offend, surprise, or shock your current or future in a way which critically jeopardizes your relationship? If you answer even one “Yes” for this short list of people, think long and hard before publishing your content.” Boom. Done.
We don’t need a complicated policy that runs on for pages that no one can understand. What we do need is a common sense policy like the one shared by Mike Brown on the Nate Riggs Social Business Strategies blog. The policy was made for business and works for education as well. The policy was written for social media, but also applies to face-to-face. Here it is with some slight schooly revisions from me.
Yes, that’s me on HigherEdLive.com chatting with host Seth Odell about Tumblr. I’d love to get your feedback. :)Betsy Soler, community manager for Florida International University, joins the program to talk about how FIU has utilized Tumblr to engage their audience, take part in interactive Q&A, and collect and curate community submitted content.

I’m honored to be included in this list.
As a social media marketing consultant, I focus on posting content related to my industry. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a Tumblr directory category for social media or any lists of the best Tumblr blogs in the field. Argh! So, I scoured Tumblr for the blogs with the best social media content. Please reblog to spread the word about these great Tumblrs. What other Tumblr blogs would you add to this list?
The Best Social Media Blogs on Tumblr
Below are my favorites (in a somewhat particular order). These folks update regularly with fresh, interesting content. I suppose you could think of this as my social media blogroll.
"I don’t know what your generation’s fascination is with documenting your every thought…but I can assure you, they’re not all diamonds. “Roman is having an OK day, and bought a Coke Zero at the gas station. Raise the roof.” Who gives a rat’s ass?"

The past couple of months have been full of adventure. I laughed a lot. I cried some. I traveled some more. I delved deeper into life. Most importantly, I took time off to refocus, restructure and reconnect with myself and the people that mean most to me.
After my father passed away in January, my priorities shifted. Things that mattered just didn’t matter anymore. Things that I took for granted, like health care and my family, suddenly meant everything me. And with graduation looming, these changes have been refreshing.
Which leads me to something important I have share…
I’m proud to announce I am the new Social Media Community Manager for Florida International University (FIU). After months of mutual courting, I decided this was the right decision to make. I had a lot of time to think things through, including other incredible job offers. However, FIU extended the all-too-rare opportunity to work on projects on an executive level and have the support of an incredible network to draw from while also honoring my salary requirements. In short, I’m beyond excited to join this very promising institution that is close and dear to my heart and work in the ever evolving world of social media.
I also want to thank Eduardo Merille, Matt Herzberger and Terry Witherell at FIU for all their support. <hug>
There you go. Cat’s out the bag. See you tomorrow morning.

According to RWW’s recent article, Twitter is NOT a Social Network, Says Twitter Exec:
Kevin Thau, Twitter’s VP for business and corporate development, announced during a presentation at Nokia World 2010 today that everyone’s favorite micro-blogging network is not actually a social network.
It’s not, you say?
No, says Thau: Twitter is for news. Twitter is for content. Twitter is for information.
I’m going to go ahead and disagree with the recent Stanford graduate and now VP of Business Development here. Of course Twitter has changed the way news and content is distributed and consumed. The article gives plenty of great examples. However, he can’t take away from the fact that it has also altered the way we communicate and interact with each other, thus making it a social platform. Don’t you remember the early videos of Twitter?
You don’t need to even watch the video. Just take a look at your timeline and see how many of your friends are using the social platform to catch up with what’s happening in each other’s lives.
It only makes sense that Kevin would say this to publishers as he sells Twitter to them. However, he can’t ignore the fact that Twitter is indeed a social platform. Why else would we be sharing the news?
